What made the original game an instant classic, and what permeates the entire series, is ELK Studios' proprietary CollectR™ mechanic. Instead of spinning reels and traditional paylines, the birds move dynamically across the game grid.
Each parrot has a specific colour (red, green, blue, purple). They move across the grid and collect (eat) only gems that match their own colour. As long as there are adjacent stones, they continue collecting.
Parrots can also collect upgrade symbols. These permanently increase the value of the gems during the current round, meaning a win at the end of a spin can be worth significantly more than at the beginning.
When the birds eat bombs, adjacent symbols are blasted away. This triggers an "Avalanche" (symbol drop) and often expands the game grid – up to a gigantic 8x8 grid for maximum winning chances.
All collected stones fill the meter above the game grid. When it's full, special symbols (like coins, wilds, or bonus scatters) drop down, extending the game round and potentially triggering Free Drops.
